Fleming Set to host OCAA and CCAA Women's Soccer Championships

Fleming College to Host Provincial and National Women’s Varsity Soccer Championships
The two events bring the best Canadian provincial and national varsity athletes together for the annual championships.
Peterborough, ON October 15, 2015– Fleming College will host both the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women’s Soccer Provincial Championship on October 29 – 31, and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship on November 10 -14 at the Fleming Sport Complex, located at the Sutherland campus in Peterborough.
As host, the Fleming Knights women’s soccer team received an automatic entry into the OCAA provincial championships which showcases the top eight teams from across Ontario for three days of top-level competition. The first four games take place October 29 and 30, with the qualifying teams vying for the gold, silver, and bronze medal games October 31. The competition will kick-off with the All Ontario banquet on October 28 for participating athletes at the Kawartha Trade and Technology Centre (KTTC) at Fleming College.
The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship will take place November 10 – 14, again with the Fleming Knights women’s soccer team entered as hosts. This championship showcases the top eight teams from across Canada for four days of high-level competition, culminating in bronze, silver, and gold medal games on November 14. This competition will also kick-off with an All Canadian banquet on November 10, celebrating sporting and coaching excellence in women’s varsity soccer across the nation.
Despite being a first-time host of the OCAA provincial women’s soccer championship, the Fleming Knights women’s team has won four bronze and one silver medal during past championships. “Hosting the CCAA National Women’s Soccer Championship is a brand new experience for us, we have never participated in this level of competition before” said Fred Batley, Athletic Coordinator for Fleming College Athletics and Recreation. “Becoming host of both competitions is the result of the College, SAC, and the City of Peterborough partnering to build a premier soccer complex. We are proud that Fleming has been given the opportunity to host and participate at the provincial and national levels.”
The Fleming College Sports Complex fields are FIFA 1 Star certified – a globally recognized rigorous testing program that includes stringent laboratory and field tests. Both events are open to the public.
