Fleming Knights and Fleming College teaming up for mental health on Bell Let’s Talk Day

Peterborough ON – (January 26, 2018) – Fleming College will join the conversation and raise awareness for mental health on Bell Let’s Talk Day.

The college’s Mental Health Initiative Team is partnering with Fleming Athletics to host Team Up for Mental Health at the Fleming Knights men’s basketball game on Wednesday, January 31.

The Knights are taking on the Durham Lords starting at 7 p.m. at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre. The game will kick off with a special ceremony, in which Fleming College President Tony Tilly will read Fleming’s new Mental Health Statement.

Team Up for Mental Health will also include the launch of the second annual First Responders Cup to be held April 14. The event, a fitness challenge that raises money for the Canadian Mental Health Association, is hosted by faculty and students in Fleming’s Justice and Health and Wellness programs. During half-time, students will demonstrate some of the fitness challenges that are part of the First Responders Cup. A video created by the Fleming Knights varsity athletes as a part of the Bell Let’s Talk Initiative will be played.

In addition to Bell Let’s Talk, the game is part of an initiative undertaken by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association – Make Some Noise for Mental Health. The CCAA is implementing a nation-wide mental health awareness campaign to break the stigma surrounding mental health on campus.

All are welcome to attend, admission is free, and there will be free popcorn, giveaways and door prizes. The first 200 guests receive a free Knights figure. Come out and Team Up for Mental Health!
