Men’s semi-final and women’s championship games to take place November 5, followed by men’s bronze or gold game on November 12.
Peterborough, ON, November 1, 2016– This November 6th, Fleming College (Sutherland Campus) will host the men’s rugby semi-final game ahead of the OCAA gold or bronze game November 12, while the women’s team also look to win gold at the championship game on November 6.
After failing to qualify in 2015, the men’s team have won the 2016 OCAA East division with a 5 – 1 tiebreaker over St. Lawrence Kingston, earning them a bye to the semi-finals and home field advantage. The team has two players in the top 10 for individual scoring including second place Ethan Wyatt with 43 points, and seventh place Alex Sicker with 31 points, who also achieved OCAA Athlete of the Week.
The Knights women’s rugby team are the defending OCAA Gold medalists and two time bronze medalists. As the defending East Division champions, they have won their division again this year placing them in the Finals with home field advantage. The team have 10 players in the top 15 for individual scoring including league leader Alize Spalding Lawrence with 40 points. OCAA Athletes of the Week have been awarded to Fleming Knights Jacinta Addai-Sarfo, Meagan Dick, and Alize Spalding-Lawrence
“As the defending gold medalists, the Fleming Knights women’s rugby team are looking to repeat,” said Fred Batley, Athletic Coordinator for Fleming Athletics. “We’re very excited to host the gold medal game this weekend. The home field advantage will hopefully give the team the fire and drive to go for the gold,” he added.
Both the OCAA Fleming Knights men’s rugby semi-final game will take place this Saturday November 6 at 12 pm, with the Knights women’s Championship Gold game following at 2 pm. The men’s Championship gold or bronze game will take place on November 12 beginning at 1 pm. Both free events are open to the public with all games taking place at the Fleming Sports Complex in Peterborough.
