Fleming Knights Host Cross Country Invitational: Athletes Persevere Running Through the September Heat
On September 24th, the Fleming Knights hosted the second cross country invitational meet of the OCAA season. Both the heat and the rugged terrain of Fleming’s course made it quite the challenge for all runners. First place in the women’s 6k went to Jannelle Hanna of Fanshawe College with the leading time of 26:48. In the men’s 8k, Andrew Brown of St. Lawrence Kingston took first place with a fast time of 30:00.
While temperatures rose to a sweltering 30 degrees Celsius and despite the heat, runners did not hold anything back. Pushing themselves through the race, Fleming’s men’s team placed 4th overall in their 8k race with Justin Jakeman placing 14th with a time of 32:21 and Luis Curry placing 18th with a time of 33:02. The Fleming women’s team was lead solely by Amy Corcoran who placed 15th overall with a 6k time of 31:34.
